Formation of the International Federation of Athlima 1999

The Australian Federation of Pankration Athlima (AFPA) are affiliates of the International Federation of Pankration Athlima (IFPA) which was formed at the world congress, in Lamia, Greece in 1999.

The IFPA is recognised by the Olympic Sport Committee in Greece consists of 23 Member countries and 5 Continental Unions - all of whom are committed to the growth of Pankration as a sport and to its re-introduction as an Olympic event. It is the role of the AFPA to facilitate the growth of Pankration within Australia, through the organisation of competition events, gradings and seminars in keeping with the overall goals of the IFPA.

President: Father David Smith

David is a 5th Pankratiastis and also holds a 4th Dan in Hapkido. He is currently head instructor at the Holy Trinity School of Martial Arts in Dulwich Hill Sydney.

David has over 15 years experience in more contact styles of fighting such as kickboxing, wrestling and even professional boxing.

David attended the official formation of the International Federation of Pankration of Athlima in 1999 as the Australian representative.

Vice President / Head of Techinical Committee:
Kon Pappiannou

As a 4th Pankratiastis, a former professional boxer, former Australian Pankration Titlist and wrestler, Kon is well experienced for his role as Head of the Technical Committee.

Kon is also head instructor of the Atlas Club which trains in Pankration, also in Dulwich Hill.
